X (Twitter) Ads – Add a Payment Card (Billing Workaround)

This guide explains how to add a payment card to X (formerly Twitter) Ads when you encounter an error in the standard billing screen.

It includes a known workaround that allows the card to be added successfully


When to Use This Guide

Use this process if:

  • You receive an error when adding a card under Billing in X Ads

  • The Ads account shows an outstanding balance

  • You are unable to add a funding source directly from the billing page

may fail under Billing due to a platform-side issue.


Workaround Overview

Instead of adding the card from Billing:

  1. Open a Campaign first

  2. Navigate into Ads Manager from there

  3. Add the payment / funding source

  4. Return to Campaign → Ads Manager

  5. Pay any outstanding balance


Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Open X Ads

  1. Go to:

https://ads.x.com/
  1. Log in with the authorized account


Step 2: Open a Campaign

  • From the dashboard, click Campaigns

  • Open any existing campaign

(You do not need to create a new campaign.)


Step 3: Go to Ads Manager

  • From within the campaign view, click Ads Manager

This bypasses the billing error seen in the main billing page.


Step 4: Add a Payment / Funding Source

  1. In Ads Manager, navigate to Billing or Payment Settings

  2. Click Add payment method or Add funding source

  3. Enter the credit card details

  4. Save the payment method


Step 5: Pay Any Outstanding Balance

  1. Go back to:

    Campaign → Ads Manager

  2. Check for any unpaid balance

  3. Submit payment using the newly added card


Verification

  • Confirm the card appears under Payment Methods
