Blackbaud Luminate Online – Set Up BBPS (Blackbaud Payment Services)

This guide explains how to set up Blackbaud Payment Services (BBPS) within Blackbaud Luminate Online (LO) so donation campaigns, eCommerce, and ticketed events can process payments correctly.

When to Use This Guide

Use this process if:

  • You are enabling payments in Blackbaud Luminate Online

  • You are connecting Blackbaud Merchant Services for the first time

Prerequisites

Before starting, ensure:

  • You have site admin access to Luminate Online Setup

  • You have valid Blackbaud Payment Service (BBPS) credentials

Step 1: Navigate to Payment Services

  1. In Luminate Online, go to Setup

  2. Select Payment capabilities

  3. Select Payment services

Step 2: Import Blackbaud Merchant Services

  1. Select Import Blackbaud Merchant Services

  2. Enter your Blackbaud Payment Service credentials

  3. Select Import

This connects your existing Blackbaud Merchant Services account to Luminate Online.

Step 3: Create a Merchant Account

  1. Under Payment capabilities, select Merchant accounts

  2. Select Create account

Step 4: Configure the Merchant Account

  1. Select your Blackbaud Merchant Services account configuration

  2. Enter the required details, including:

    • Tax ID

    • Supported credit card types

    • Whether recurring transactions should be processed

  3. Review all entries for accuracy

Step 5: Finish Setup

  • Select Finish to complete the merchant account setup

Once completed, the merchant account will be available for use in Luminate Online.

Post-Setup Configuration

After the accounts are connected, you can configure payment settings for:

  • Donation campaigns

  • eCommerce stores

  • Ticketed events

Ensure each campaign or module is mapped to the correct merchant account.

Best Practices

  • Use a single, approved merchant account unless separation is required for reporting

  • Confirm recurring transaction settings before launching campaigns

  • Perform a test transaction before going live
